MooMoos Piercing: Webstore buying guide

Threadless Ends

Threadless jewellery is exactly what it says, no thread so no worrying that it will come unscrewed! It is also by far the most versatile piece as all threadless ends are compatible with all sizes and styles of threadless shafts.

They're suitable for :

  • Ear lobes
  • Cartilage
  • Nostrils
  • Lips
  • Navels/belly buttons
  • and more!!!

If you had two ear piercings....say one conch and one helix, if you purchased some threadless jewellery you wouldn't need to worry about buying piece and it not fitting in the gauge of the posts you wear in either piercings - it will fit in both. All that you need to do is ensure you have the correct gauge/length threadless post in each piercing and then the top will fit in both.

Threaded Ends

Threaded jewellery are perfect pieces for areas that experience more movement and larger pieces of jewellery that may require a little bit of extra security.

They're suitable for:

  • Large chunky pieces of jewellery (16g/1.2mm OR 14g/1.6mm)
  • Tongue Piercings (14g threaded)
  • Cheek Piercings (14g threaded)
  • Surface & Microdermal Piercings (14g Threaded)
  • Intimate Piercings (14g Threaded)

It is important to know that not all thread patterns are compatible with all gauge/thickness of jewellery.

There are two main thread types sold by Moomoo's Piercing: 18g/16g and 14g/12g. A 16g threaded piece will thread into both 18g and 16g posts, where as a 14g threaded piece will only thread into 14g and 12g posts

Shafts/Posts

Probably the most under-rated but most important piece of your purchase! This is the piece of jewellery that passes through your body, and in order to find the best fit for your individual anatomy, you need to know:

  • What style - is your decorative part threadless or threaded
  • What gauge - how thick is the post
  • What length/diameter - how long is the post or width of the ring
  • What disc size (if applicable) -  what size disc is best to balance the size of the end

* by wearing the wrong size / ill fitting jewellery, may result in irritation and damage to your piercings!

The surefire way to ensure well-fitting jewellery is to have your anatomy assessed in person by a professional piercer, but here is a guide that is a rough estimate to show the variety of sizes and styles that can work in your individual placement.

Earlobe:        Labret:    18g – 14g:     *5-8mm

Cartilage:    Labret:    16g – 14g:     *4-8mm

Rook:             Curved Barbell/Ring (once fully healed!):    16g – 14g:    *8mm

Daith:            BCR/Seam Ring/Clicker:    16g – 14g:     *8-10mm

Nose:             Labret/Ring (once fully healed!):    18g – 16g:     *5-8mm

Lip:                 Labret/Ring (once fully healed!):    16g – 14g:     *6-10mm

Navel:           Curved Barbell / Navel Bar:    14g:     *8-13mm

Septum:       Circular Barbell/BCR/Seam/Ring/Clicker:    16g – 14g:     *8-10mm

*These are a range of estimates based on experience of percings once they are fully healed (over 6-12months old)

Installation

It is always advised to have your jewellery installed by a professional piercer, as this will minimise the risk of damage to both your jewellery and your piercing too.

It is easy to purchase piercing tools including tapers, pliers and hemostats, however without training and guidance it is very easy to damage your piercings and/or break your new sparkly jewellery piece, and use of such instruments is strongly discouraged.

If you are struggling to remove your jewellery and/or install a piece at home, please book in for a jewellery fitting appointment and Moomoo's will be more than happy to help you without the risk of damage.
